Good for those in average good health. Fasting is not recommended for those who are sick. Likewise, the aged or babies.
- You fast best when you are not engaged in business or work, so that you can have time to concentrate and pray.
- It is best and safe to fast when you on a vacation, because then you can rest more. You do not have to run about, being disturbed and distracted by the cares and worries of life.
- When you fast, stop eating.
- You can drink water. If you like, do not stop drinking. Plenty of water or fruit juices, prevents dehydration. A lot of fluid helps you to avoid dehydration. Dehydration affects health quite adversely.
- Do not take anything that is of solid food during fasting.
- Do not take milk, because milk is very solid.
- During fasting, you can read about divine or Godly things.
- You can listen to radio programmes of religious nature, or watch television broadcast of religious programmes, but do not allow anything worldly.
- Definitely, it is better to eat and pray, than to fast and not pray. Many office workers fast and do not pray. You should know that God answers you because of your prayer. Fasting only makes the spirit able and fit to pray.
- For best results, avoid or minimise your mobility.
- For best and quick answers to pray, have one or few prayer points. Having so many prayer points at a time spoils the prayer. “What makes your prayer ineffective is having so many prayer points at a time,” says the Almighty.
- When you start to eat, after many days of fasting, do not try to gulp down as much food as you do before the fasting. If you try to do so, you will have all sorts of troubles - severe pains and strains in the throat, indigestion and other discomforts.
- When you are fasting, your stomach shrinks (becomes smaller in size). It can shrink to the size of an egg, depending on how many days of fasting. Likewise, your throat and intestines contract. So, if force plates of food into your stomach, you will experience aches and pains that can make you feel very uncomfortable.
- After fasting, and on the first day, begin with very light meals like water, fruit juice, milk and a few biscuits.
- Next day, take a bit more.
- If you have fasted up to seven days, do not go back to your normal and full intake of food, until after about three or four days.
- Do not engage in strenuous work soon after fasting for many days.
- A person who is often overlaboured may feel very weak soon after he begins to fast. If you a leader, it is good to reduce your work load and eat very well before the days of fasting. It is usually encouraging to see the prayer group leader feeling very weak to the extent that he cannot stand up to lead others in the prayer.
